REBATES

The State of California offers substantial rebates for both large and small commercial & residential solar electric systems. Depending on the size of your facility, you will qualify for a rebate that can cover as much as 20% of the total system cost.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UTILITIES

  • LADWP (reopened to non-residential customers on July 22, 2013 with plenty of money availalbe as of 04/15/2014):
  • SCE/SDG&E and PG&E (residential funds have been sporadically available in 2014, with waitlists in effect:
  • GWP (program is currently closed and will reopen on July 1, 2014. Residnential rate for 2014-2015 is $1.61/Watt):
  • PWP (open rate is going down on 10/16/2013 from $1.40/Watt to $0.85/Watt):
  • Burbank (lottery for rebates, meaning there is no guarantee being granted this rebate):
  • Anaheim (lottery for rebates, meaning there is no guarantee being granted this rebate):
  • Riverside (closed until 7/2014):
TAX CREDITS
Solar consumers are eligible for federal tax incentives for the purchase and installation of eligible solar systems, including both solar photovoltaics (PV) and solar hot water (solar thermal) systems, as well as other renewable energy investments. Go to www.irs.gov to get full details, or find helpful summaries on the Energy Star website (residential) or at the DSIRE website (commercial).

Residential Tax Credit: 30% of the cost, up to $500 per .5 kW of power capacity
Expires: December 31, 2016
Details: Existing homes & new construction qualify. Must be your principal residence. Rentals and second homes do not qualify.

Commercial Tax Credit: 30% of the cost, up to $1, 500 per .5 kW of power capacity
Expires: December 31, 2016
Details: Solar Water Heat, Solar Space Heat, Solar Thermal Electric, Solar Thermal Process Heat

Other benefits
  • Installing a Solar Power System doesn not increase your property taxes.
  • Depending on the use for the panels one may be able to depreciate the cost of the panels for additonal tax benefits.
